What is Support the Goals (SDG)?
In 2015, 193 world leaders unanimously agreed on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The SDG is a global action plan for countries to work together and transform our world by 2030.
At the heart of SDG are 17 Goals, 169 targets and 232 indicators. These goals are adopted globally with the aim to tackle poverty, reduce inequality and protect our planet.
Support the Goals is a simple rating system and roadmap to establish relevant priority goals setting out targets to continuously improve building a more prosperous future.
Sunspeed have committed to support the global goals and have joined Support the Goals. We urge other businesses to do the same, click HERE to find out more.
Circular IT
We are committed to significantly reducing waste for recycling and ensuring any unavoidable waste is utilised to the fullest degree. Our in-house processes include repurposing equipment and parts / component harvesting from any non-working devices.
We have waste recycling partners who use innovative technology to refine, separate and repurpose waste. The combined efforts of Sunspeed and our supply chain ensures that virtually 0% of all waste streams ends up in landfill.
We’ve set ourselves ambitious targets to improve our Circular Economy. In our 2-year plan we aim to:
- Refurbish equipment in-house
- Regularly donate a percentage of working/refurbished units to charity, helping to end Digital Poverty
- Continuously review and identify any hot spots within our value chain
- Achieve ISO14001 and R2 Certification
Responsible Consumption
From our facilities to the materials used by Sunspeed we make decisions based on the environmental impact.
Energy – We use narrow beam PiR lighting which is operated by either motion sensors or timers. Additionally, our air conditioning is controlled by a timer and is programmed to stay at a consistent temperature, significantly increasing the energy efficiency of our facilities.
Waste Avoidance – We do not purchase plastic water bottles and plastic cups and staff are encouraged to do the same. We provide glasses/cups and running drinking water and hot drinks helping towards the reduction of plastics in rivers and oceans around the world.
Cardboard – We avoid single use materials wherever possible. In 2022 we recycled 16.02 tonnes of cardboard, equating to a saving of approximately 272 trees and freeing over 144.18 cubic yards of landfill space. Our On-site baler ensures we reduce the number of trips needed to recycle the waste.
In an effort to further improve our commitment to responsible consumption, we continuously review additional ways to improve our energy usage. A current target is switching to 100% renewable energy supplier in the next 12 months. We will also be communicating good to know information and tips on reducing consumption with our employees and increase our social media coverage on responsible consumption.
Transport and Logistics
All vehicles have panic buttons to further protect our team, giving further reassurance that the relevant people and departments will be alerted instantly in case of an emergency.
Sunspeed is on track to replace our diesel fleet with a blend of electrified or hydrogen-powered vehicles by 2040. This strategic investment is underpinned by a steadfast commitment: the significant reduction of carbon emissions originating from our transportation activities.
