Background
Sunspeed is the incumbent supplier to deliver infrastructure projects for a managed services and cloud-computing provider based in the UK. Following the successful delivery of data centre migrations for the customer’s UK-based cloud computing infrastructure, Sunspeed was asked to complete the pre-deployment work for a new environment supporting a growing base of US customers.

The Requirement
The client was undertaking a new infrastructure deployment in the US to support the acquisition of customers utilising their cloud computing services including IaaS.
The deployment consisted of building 20 x new racks into a site in Dallas, TX. The space was in open colocation, meaning that containment, power and cooling was already in place. However, to support the deployment of advanced computing, high-quality top-of-rack and out-of-rack structured cabling was required.
The growing base of US-based clients meant that future expansion was front-of-mind. Therefore, the structured cabling design needed to be modular and change-ready for future deployments.
The Solution
Prior to the installation, Sunspeed’s teams collaborated with the customer to implement a design that was in line with their specifications, modular, and supportive of future deployments. Using knowledge and lessons from the client’s UK DC presence, Sunspeed’s technical leadership designed a plan that would deliver performance and be practically sound so that future IMAC and net-new deployments would be seamless.
The design incorporated 144 x inter-cabinet connections of OM4 and Copper cabling, utilising splicing and over-head cable management to ensure minimal connection length to preserve speeds.
Once the design was in-place, Sunspeed dispatched experienced engineering teams to site to complete the installation. Some pre-assembly work was required, and destination labels and tags were applied to cables to improve management and DCIM integration.
The Outcome
Sunspeed’s solution enabled the opening of the rapid deployment of a new infrastructure platform to commence immediate services to US-based clients.
The design and installation was precisely alligned with customer expectations and enabled them to consider and plan effectively for future expansion work and deliver on business objectives.
