A leading AI-powered trading firm chose Sunspeed to deliver BAU management accross their UK data centre estate. 

Background

Sunspeed is the client’s incumbent supplier for physical IT services, delivering a range of project-based and BAU services to support the management of their complex and advanced estate.

Based on the success of numerous key projects – including deploying new HPC platforms in the US – the customer wanted our team to leverage knowledge of their estate and operations to deliver BAU activities.

THE REQUIREMENT

The client’s operational need was relatively simple: low latency, rapid deployment. Their infrastructure was responsible for running applications for their AI-powered trading platform, meaning that maintaining global standards of installation was critical.

The drive for innovation also meant that all environments had to be change-ready and prepared for project-based work delivered in tandem with Sunspeed.

The customer has 3 sites in the UK with different providers, meaning that external smart hands was disparate and installation and change activities were not adhering to their standards. This also meant reporting and documentation was more difficult, and the centralised control of their infrastructure was slipping.

Alongside scheduled support, Sunspeed also provides smart hands on an on-demand, resident, or retained basis. 

The Solution

Prior to implementation of a smart-hands service, Sunspeed conducted a series of tasks to ensure the service was delivered optimally. This included audits and DCIM rectification, review and alignment with standards and change processes, and establishing reporting and governance structures. Sunspeed then agreed a schedule for providing dedicated resource to each site. 

Our engineers perform IMAC tasks including:

  • Installation of new equipment.
  • Equipment cabling.
  • Device decommissioning.
  • HDD / Cable swap-outs. 
  • Internal move & optimisation activities.
  • Equipment relocations.
  • Environment tidy & neaten.
  • Device / cable labelling. 

Alongside smart hands, Sunspeed provided a number of other services to provide more comprehensive BAU management. This included access to responsive smart hands, asset disposal incl. on-site shredding, Rack Vulnerability Assessments, and storage & deliveries. The combination of these services meant the customer was also able to manage deployment and decommission activites with cost-predictability, and ensure environments were kept change-ready.
