Background

A leading UK financial services organisation was undertaking a strategic migration of its IT infrastructure into a new London colocation facility. Working through a global managed services provider, the customer required a delivery partner capable of preparing the target environment and executing the migration with minimal operational disruption.

The project involved relocating up to 60 production IT devices while simultaneously introducing new infrastructure into the destination environment. Success depended on creating a fully prepared target state before the migration window, ensuring every device, cable and connection was documented, validated and ready for cutover.

With a tightly controlled out of hours migration schedule and business critical services at stake, the customer needed complete confidence in both the engineering and logistics elements of the project.

The CHALLENGE

Sunspeed delivered a fully managed programme combining infrastructure deployment, migration planning and specialist relocation services.

The engagement began with a detailed audit of the existing environment, including hardware inventories, cable tracing exercises and migration sequencing. This information was used to develop the rack elevations, patching schedules and implementation plans that would form the foundation of the migration.

Ahead of the move, Sunspeed engineers built and installed a new structured cabling environment across four destination cabinets. The installation included Cat6 and OM4 fibre infrastructure, designed to support both the immediate migration requirements and the customer’s future growth plans.
