Background
The client was engaged in a broad-scale cost-saving initiative, and was examining their operational expenditure in their data centres. They were experiencing large recurrent cost for sites with significant legacy equipment.
In order to establish a strategy for consolidating their footprint and eliminating excess expenditure, they reached out to Sunspeed to conduct a comprehensive physical assessment of their infrastructure to provide them with the base data to plan future consolidation.
106
Devices accross 2 x sites.
The Requirement
The customer had 2 x sites accross in Manchester, with a mixture of equipment in public and private colocation, and required Sunspeed to audit a total of 106 devices mostly running applications for essential business services.
The Solution
Sunspeed deployed experienced Engineers to both sites to conduct a hardware and end-to-end cable trace audit. The audit was non-intrusive, using careful live environment best practices to ensure no physical risk to connections over the course of the inspection.
The result was a detailed report in Sunspeed’s bespoke infrastructure planner. This document included information on hardware and connections with rack layouts and port-mapping.
The Outcome
Sunspeed’s solution enabled the end customer to gain a greater degree of visibility of their infrastructure, and formed the basis of their ongoing cost-saving initiatives.
The customer decided to move some services to cloud-based solutions, while some critical physical equipment was relocated to a different data centre. Sunspeed was chosen by the customer to plan and execute the subsequent relocation, on the strength of our industry-leading Data Centre Relocation service.
