Case Study: Decommission – Horsham & Hounslow

Background

Sunspeed was engaged by a leading ITAD partner to support the decommission of 2 x data centre environments for a large insurance broker end-user. Our team was brought onto the project to fulfill the specification of a large RFP.

The Requirement

The end-customer was urgently exiting 2 x environments, and required the disposal of 578 x devices, 168 x racks, 6,339 x HDDs & 13,401 x tapes. Sunspeed’s engagement included the secure transport of hardware to a partner ITAD facility, and the on-site shredding of data-bearing media at one of the end-customer environments.

The Solution

Sunspeed was engaged by our partner to urgently commence on-site shredding, as the end-customer was working to an imminent vacancy deadline from their data centre provider. From sign-off, our team began the project within 24 hours, managing the secure transport of hardware & racks to our partner’s ITAD facility for processing. Our white glove service ensured risk-free transport and guaranteed success in on-ward re-sale / circular IT efforts. 

We also deployed our state-of-the-art shred truck to site to complete the on-site destruction of data-bearing media. The work continued for 6 x weeks, and we completed the shred of over 19,000 x HDDs & tapes.

In partnership with our ITAD partner, we negotiated several challenges including the growth of project scope. Supported by a responsive and proactive back-office function, we were able to deliver flexibility with resource to allow additional work to be incorporated into the project without disrupting timelines.

The Outcome

Sunspeed’s solution enabled our partner to successfully deliver their RFP with the end-customer, and in-turn supported the customer to exit their data centre and deliver on their strategic initiative.
