Background
A global technology organisation operating GPU based development environments needed to relocate infrastructure across multiple European data centres. These environments supported high performance development and testing workloads where stability, configuration accuracy, and delivery certainty were critical.
The relocations formed part of a wider consolidation programme focused on cost control, operational efficiency, and improved consistency across development locations. Given the value and density of the hardware, the client required a delivery partner that could manage risk while working to fixed change windows.

The Requirement
The client was looking to achieve two successful international relocations of live development environments without disrupting engineering activity.
Key desired outcomes included:
-
Predictable delivery to fixed schedules
-
Minimal downtime contained within agreed change windows
-
No configuration drift between source and destination environments
-
Protection of high value GPU infrastructure during handling and transport
-
A consistent delivery approach that could be reused for future moves
-
Clear ownership of coordination across engineering, logistics, and data centre teams
For the UK based relocation, the client also required confidence that customs and routing complexity would be managed without introducing delays or additional risk.

Unplanned downtime.
The Solution
We delivered two independent relocations using a proven migration approach designed for GPU dense development environments.
Move 1: Paris to Amsterdam
-
Relocation of 70 servers and 8 network switches, including all associated cabling
-
Rack layout and patching aligned with standards used on previous GPU development projects
Move 2: London to Rotterdam
-
Relocation of 98 servers and 10 network switches, including all associated cabling
-
Coordination of cross border logistics, including customs considerations and routing via specialist providers where required
For both moves, the team confirmed layouts, patching, and dependencies in advance via a dedicated technical call. On site engineers completed deinstallation and reinstallation, following consistent labelling and documentation standards to ensure accurate rebuilds and fast validation.
The Outcome
-
Two international relocations delivered to plan and within agreed change windows
-
168 servers and 18 switches relocated across multiple European sites
-
Consistent rack layouts and patching across environments
-
Reduced risk of post move issues or rework
-
Faster return to normal development activity for engineering teams
The relocations demonstrated how a repeatable, outcome focused approach can reduce risk and complexity when moving high value development infrastructure across borders.
