Case Study: Data Centre Deployments for Data Centre Operator

Sunspeed managed the build-out of infrastructure for two new environments for an energy industry end-user.

Background

A global data centre operator embarked on a strategic project to deliver two new bespoke data centre environments in Oslo and Stockholm for a major Nordic energy client. The build included 22 racks in Oslo and 18 in Stockholm, each designed to meet highly specific operational and network requirements.

This was the first time the operator had created fully tailored environments of this kind, making the project both high-profile and time-sensitive. The objective was to deploy integrated rack and network infrastructure that met the client’s exact technical and performance standards.

The Requirement

To achieve this, the operator needed a trusted delivery partner to manage the structured cabling, fibre infrastructure, and rack integration across both sites. Sunspeed’s work formed part of a wider programme involving multiple internal teams and third-party vendors, requiring close coordination and precise alignment with the operator’s broader delivery schedule.

Key challenges included:

  • Coordinating multiple engineering teams across two new-build sites, each with different schedules and dependencies.

  • Managing late-stage design updates from the operator’s internal design team, including rack layout and network configuration changes.

  • Maintaining strict adherence to patching schedules, documentation requirements, and internal quality standards.

  • Scaling structured cabling and integration work across 40 racks while maintaining operational safety and consistency.

  • Overcoming initial delays caused by external site readiness issues outside Sunspeed’s control.

The operator required a partner that could adapt to ongoing change, communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, and deliver without compromising quality or schedule.

The Solution

Sunspeed was chosen based on its strong track record delivering complex, multi-site data centre projects and its established relationship with the operator.

Sunspeed provided a complete end-to-end service, covering:

  • Project management across both Oslo and Stockholm, aligning with the operator’s overall delivery programme.

  • Technical design collaboration, adapting to evolving rack and network requirements.

  • Procurement and logistics, including materials sourcing and customs management.

  • Structured cabling and fibre patching, incorporating PMAX deployments and Omega network installation.

  • Rack integration and hardware installation, delivered in line with the operator’s patching and documentation standards.

Close communication between Sunspeed, the operator’s internal teams, and external vendors ensured each phase of work remained coordinated and on track. Despite several last-minute design revisions, Sunspeed maintained pace and quality across both sites.

    The Outcome

Both data centre environments were delivered successfully, with Oslo completed on time and Stockholm finished ahead of schedule. Sunspeed’s adaptability and coordination ensured the project remained aligned with the operator’s programme, despite the challenges of parallel delivery across two new-build sites.

By responding quickly to design changes and managing all technical, logistical, and operational aspects seamlessly, Sunspeed reinforced its reputation as a trusted delivery partner. The project demonstrated Sunspeed’s capability to execute complex infrastructure builds under tight timeframes, helping theclient to deliver high-performance, bespoke environments for its enterprise client.
