Background
The customer was previously hosting high-performance research cluster in on-premise facilities in their UK campus. This was creating high energy demands and drew power from predominantly non-renewable sources, contradicting the institution’s sustainability targets and the broader mission of their research.
The customer contracted Sunspeed to manage the relocation of this critical infrastructure into a sustainable data centre facility in southern Sweden, which both draws power from renewable sources and re-contributes it.
23 x
Devices of HPC compute relocated.
The Requirement
The customer required Sunspeed to manage the secure transport and re-installation of the HPC cluster containing 23 x devices managing university-wide research workloads.
The total value of equipment, and the criticality of it’s applications, meant that secure and IT-spec transport was essential.
The cross-border transport also meant that customs negotiation and a reliable IOR service was required.
1300
Miles covered.
The Solution
Sunspeed provided a comprehensive service which included:
- Secure transportation of equipment.
- De/re-installation of devices.
- IOR/EOR Service.
- Customs Negotiation.
- Duties and Taxes payment.
- Goods-in-transit Insurance.
The Outcome
The new environment was successfully delivered with minimal downtime and redundancy. The shift to a new sustainable facility also increased availability of power, enabling them to upgrade the performance of their compute cluster with lower overall operational expenditure.
